CRACK CLOUD COSTLY ENGINEERED ILLUSION

Canadian multi-media collective Crack Cloud release their third single, 'Costly Engineered Illusion' from their highly anticipated second album Tough Baby. The new single is an almost Springsteen-esque stomp, an immediate and powerful track that serves as another example of the group branching out from the all too ubiquitous and increasingly meaningless label of 'post-punk'; the luscious orchestral arrangements, driving sax-lines, shouted group vocals and erratic structure combine to create a unique sense jubilance and raucousness. The track is accompanied by a characteristically impressive video, the group's definition as a multi-media collective means that their visual output just as considered and experimental as their audio. Speaking on the video the band, "We spent a week in Trenčín, Slovakia, over the summer producing a theatre representation of the housing crisis in Western Canada. It was our first venture into live theatre; the process was spontaneous, disorienting, and new. Finding synergy with Silvia Sviteková and her dance company was an elevating experience, reinforcing our mutual love for creative improvisation. The video is primarily a compilation of B roll from our time there." Tough Baby will be released on September 16th on Meat Machine Records, check out the video here. -Toby Evans-Jesra
